We were on the waiting list for the 1st Nest thermostats. I knew they were going to make a dent, they did.

The guys who designed the iPod designed a thermostat. That's right, a thermostat. We have 5, they're the best. The name of product is Nest, here's their website.
Nest gives control of the furnace back to homeowners. I've learned quite a bit about furnaces. For example most newer furnaces have a motherboard now. The idea of a "smart furnace" is good. But the problem is, 99% of consumers don't take advantage of what the motherboard does. And, the motherboard is prone to failure (chips don't do well in heat). Far as I can tell all the motherboard does is keep the furnace guy in business doing service calls!
Nest takes over the "smart" functions -- no motherboard needed. I don't know about you, but I've had programmable thermostats. Doing the programming was more trouble than it was worth. But with the Nest, it learns on its own. Then from there, it's easy to add in programming because there's a graphical interface done by the same guys who designed the iPod. I can manage any of my thermostats from my browser, smart phone or tablet. Nest thermostats come with a 5 year warranty and 24 X 7 support. They get it. If I was making programmable thermostats, I'd be worried. Because I think Nest has set the new standard.
