George Monbiot is a good bloke
I'm done posting on Twitter. But I do still doom scroll.
I have a thing for English blokes and commoners. I love 'em. Just came across this from this bloke George Monbiot. It's 2 minutes of must see tv.
"What we have to do is the big structural political economic stuff. What we've been told to do is bollocks (I love this word). It's not going to get us anywhere. It's pathetic, micro-consumer bollocks. Which isn't going to get us anywhere.
"There are one or two things you can do as a consumer that do make change. Switch to a plant based diet, that's one. Big, big change. Because animal farming has this massive environmental impact (on the planet). Another one is stop flying.
"But beyond that, actually everything we have to do is change the system. We have to overthrow the system which is eating the planet with perpetual growth.
"I mean, since when, was GDP a sensible measure of human welfare? And yet everything that governments want to do, is to try to boost GDP.
"Now, people like the OECD and the world bankers are like, "We're not asking for a lot of growth, just 3% a year. That means doubling in 24 years. We're bursting through all the enviromental boundaries and screwing the plant already and you want to double it"?
"We can't do it by just pissing around at the margins of the problem. We've gotta go straight to the heart of capitalism and overthrow it".
Good work, George. "change the system...overthrow the system". More of this, please. Wen, are people going to start fighting back? Start standing up for themselves. Taking a stand. Wen it's too late? Then it'll be too late. The time is now.
tty next time,
